Hello all,

Sold my 03 Caravelle 207 (21') and I am ready to upgrade to a 2007 Captiva 246 BR with 190 hours on it.  Can anyone send me thier thoughts on this boat or items I should look for when I inspect the boat next week.  I am driving 5 hours to look at the boat so I want to be as thorough as possible.  It is a freshwater boat and has the 350 mag BIII 300HP no tabs, reg exhaust.

Thanks in advace.

I just upgraded to a 2005 Rinker 232 BR from a Caravelle 206 BR and couldn't be happier with the purchase.  If it were me I'd have it surveyed by a professional before any money changes hands.

Got our 2006 246BR, with the exact same setup you're looking at, late last season. It only had 68 hours on it, and after a complete season, we're very happy with it. (Except how much of it there is to clean after a full season in the water, which is what we were doing today.)

I'd imagine tabs would be a nice addition, but we have no problems with the way ours runs without them. Pops skiers out nicely, gets on plane pretty quickly, and has a top end around 50mph with a clean bottom. That doesn't stay clean long in the Illinois River though, so top end dropped as the season went on.

My only complaint is an upholstery issue. The vinyl is coming apart at the piping on top of three cushions, which I don't think should be happening yet. We'll either have to have them repaired, if possible, or recovered in the off season.

A professional inspection, as suggested, is probably a fine idea too. We bought ours without one, or a water trial, on consignment from a dealer who seemed honest. Maybe we just got lucky!

Welcome to the site and good luck with your inspection of the boat.  I have driven a 246 with the same set up.  I was going to give you my thoughts, but DZ summed it up nicely.

The tabs are nice to have on this boat. For some reason the weight always ends up on one side or the other. They help to balance that out.

It's a great boat and you will love it!  I had no issues at all and would buy another one in a heartbeat.  I have never really felt the need for tabs, the boat and 350 mag, seem to be a good match and you'll love the fuel economy.  The ONLY thing that I would suggest is make sure and keep the colored hullsides under cover and/or out of the sun.  Mine is black and for some reason red and black are the worst about oxidizing/fading.  If mine were kept outside, I would invest in a custom cover that would completely cover from bow to stern and all the way down the the colored hull.

Enjoy your new toy!

franchrm, you will love this boat. My wife and I are out almost every weekend in our '07 246. If you decide to add a sub-woofer to the stereo, I mounted an Infinity Basslink against the bathroom wall right next to the stereo. Whoa baby, best boat enhancement I've ever done.

Enjoy and Welcome Aboard!
