I have a 270 Fiesta Vee with a Bravo 3 outdrive.  I made a bonehead rookie mistake yesterday.  I checked the level in the resovoir and it was nearly perfect.  I added about an 1/8".  I forgot to put the cap back on the resovoir and took it for a 20 minute ride.  It ran fine with no alarms.  I returned to my slip and backed in.  I shut the engine off.  After about 3 minutes, I turned the engine back on and i got a warning beep.  I opened the hatch and found the cap on top of the air cover and no gear lube in the resovoir (it was on the engine floor under by the bilge).  I added fluid to the resovoir to fill it (only took about half a quart).  I started engine and no alarm (which i'm hoping is a good sign).  I put in in gear and let it run for a few mins. Still no alarm.  My question is: Is it likely I didn any serious damage to the outdrive?

The only damage you did was getting the bilge dirty  grin clean up the mess and evertthing will be fine. We've all had our bonehead mistakes that's how we learn.

Sorry to hear about your mess.  Yuck!  But that's all it is... a mess.  Welcome to the bonehead club!

Yep, we've all done some rookie mistakes.   bang head  But at least you got it before things went too far.  I'm sure all is well after a little cleaning.

I agree with everyone, no damage. I once had a hose connector fail and it drained all my fluid into the bilge on two occasions. Never had any problems with the drives after.  thumbsup

Just replaced the thru hull fitting on mine, after  outdrive and gimble re-work as I recall the fill primer (Name?) in the outdrive is self closing bleeder type so no fluid should have been lost from the outdrive. I know some folks keep an eye on the fluid and ceased to use the reservoir(not recommended) after failure or breakage of the thru hull fitting.  Though you got some excellent responses I thought i would post for future readers.
Happy Boating.
