Ok, now the overheating issue is over with waterpump rebuid. Now when I go out it bogs at 2500-2800 rpms at 10mph. I changed fuel, fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, dist cao and rotor. I cleaned the hull and outdrive. In nuetral it will go past 3k but under load won't plane and get above 2800. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

What degree's of timing did you set the distributer to?  What is the fuel pressure?   Al

Can it be a faulty sensor. I don't know your year of boat? This might help.

Sorry, It's a 2001 232. I didn't check timing. I need to buy  a light. Just did the basic tune-up and wont plane.
There is no fuel pressure gauge. Do I need to buy one?
Thanks!

Every time you replace the dist cap and rotor you must check and adjust the initial timing.  If your boat is Fuel injected, either throttle body or multiport, you must first put the ECM into Service mode to adjust the timing.  Again if your motor is fuel injected, your fuel pressure must be 43psi at the fuel rail to run properly especially at WOT.  I had a MPI 6.2 lt last week which was low on power, however it idled great and ran perfect up to 3k.  Would not run much over 3500 though.  Fuel pressure was only 30 psi,  the hi pressure fuel pump was weak and could not reach maximum pressure..   Replaced the Hi pressure pump and back up to full HP and 5300 rpm.  Good luck  Al

Well Damn! Lol, Wasn't wanting to have to buy all of that now. I need a timing light, fuel pressure guage, and worst case a fuel pump. I didn't think you could adjust timing with out a scanner or pc? Weird it ran fine last season shipped from Maryland to San Diego and put in water and acts like something with ecu restricting higher rpm's in gear. In neutral it can go 4k + if I wanted to. Thanks for the reply. might have to take it to a real mechanic now.
