Changed my oil and filters this weekend. After warming up engine i pumped out what seemed to be about 2 litres of oil. Thinking that my trusty oil extractor had let me dowm (Mercury hand siphon pump) i pulled the remote drain lines out of the boat drain plug hole and got out about another 1/2 litre only. Thinking that maybe i had let my oils get low i continued on to change filters . When i went to fill the oils the engines only took about four litres of oil each. After starting and then alowing oil to settle back down in sump the mark was just below the top of the dipstick. Is it normal to only use four litres of oil per engine, thanks, Pedro

This depends on the size of filter, but usually 5 qts is it on the standard 5.7   If you used the small filter 4.5qts.  You can convert that to liters.  lol   We use WIX filters,  51069

I usually start with the 1 gallon jug (3.78 quarts) and then run it and check it.  Surprisingly after that it may take very little, maybe a total of 4 quarts.  I know typical car is about 5 quarts.  Best thing is not to add too much, just check it often and go from there.

There us a thread on this if you search. Some documents say 4 qts, some say 5, I think it is actually 4.

Only two things you need to worry about, did you get all the oil out? I use a pump extractor on the drain lines.
And, did you fill to correct line on dipstick.
