As I reported in my intro post I just put my baby to bed this last weekend. The boat ran flawlessly all summer, but when I went to fire up the port engine for the last time all it would do is turn-over and then I smelled gas. Starboard side fired up as usual. Since I didn't have time to fart around as my buddy was backing my trailer down the ramp, I put her on with one engine. She is now in storage, not 100%, and I haven't slept in two days. Both motors started perfectly the previous day so I don't think it could be too terribly serious, but where does one begin to look?

Thanks all!!

I am sure you have EFI engines,  Check for the basics, Fuel and spark.  I highly suspect the ignition control module, located inside the distributer.  Extreamly common for these to go out.  (under $100)  If module is bad, consider also changing the dist cap and rotor.  Note once changed timing must be reset. and the computer must be put into service mode before attempting.  Good luck,  keep us posted.  Al

I had the same problem this weekend. Ran the boat 20 mins, sat for an hour fishing and would not start. Turned over fine with the smell of fuel. finally start when I gave it throttle. I'm thinking it may by water in the fuel.

Partsman, did it stay running at idle?  If not, it could also be the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.  If it ran fine at idle, then ignore anything I said. whistle

I just got back from the lake. My mechanic buddy, who was supposed to meet me, cacelled... Something about a paying customer. Oh well, I spent most of the day waxing and polishing to get a jump on next season.

After spending some time with the FSM leads me to believe Al is on the right track. I know it's a spark issue but not really sure how these EFI's work. With the long winters we experience up here I might have a PHD in this stuff by spring. Any additional ideas will be duly noted. Thanks again, Woodie.

Sunday, it was the ignition control module. I changed everything just to be on
safe side.
