I can't imagine it would be that expensive, but time would be a factor if you plan on installing yourself. I don't belive the vacuflush heads are that expensive to purchase. I think the main thing would be getting the plumbing and electric run. It may even be possible to use existing waste and water lines.

Look into it before you buy! There is more to it than you think! There is a vacuum generator to consider where are you going to mount it. Depending on which vacuum Generator you choose the L xWx H = 19"x 8" x14" or 29"x 10"x 8" this amount of space may be difficult to find on your 270. The other consideration is that Vacuflush system recommends that the system is tied to fresh water system. This means that there is always pressured fresh water available.

Mike...you sure on the fresh water? I was understanding that the fresh water side of a boats system is never hooked (plumbed) to the tolit side. Too much of a risk. I'll look it up if I get time.

Fresh Water Side

Yep! there is a back flow preventer valve that blocks the water from returning to the system. VacuFlush recommends fresh water flush! Everyone I have seen on the newer boats is fresh water flush. Of course this also cuts down on the amount of fesh water available, in a already to small of a tank.

You are right about hooking a head to the fresh water system, Unless it is engineered to do so! Most people feel that a check valve is all that is needed. According to USCG regs it needs to be a back flow preventer valve, Similar to a check valve, however a back flow can not ever allow water to flow in the opposite direction. Check Valves well sometimes leak! errrrrr! The price says it all, back flow is 10x the cost of the check valve.
These are used through out the industry in fact if you have a inground lawn sprinkler at home you have a back flow preventer as part of the system.
The cost of the totally system is about $3000.00. The main reason for this is that VacuFlush will only warrenty units that have been installed by their authorized installers.
Still want a VacuFlush? Ok for boats that are designed to use them. NOT so OK as a retrofit!

Also keep in mind that you will be draining the batteries each time you flush ! -

Not exactly on the subject....but I will be replacing our head this year. A couple of things cracked, and/or have worn out...like the joker valve. So rather than messign with the repair package, I'm just going to buy a new one and replace it.
I considered buying the PHII, but decided to just go with the original head. I figured the original one lasted 5 years, so this one will last that long as well. By that time, I'll be in the market to move up

My 342 came with the vacuflush system. The main advantage is the small of water used per flush. The water is supplied from the fresh water tank rather than sea water, which is an advantage for me in salt water. The vacume generator will take up some space. So far the system works well but the boat is only a month old.
