Hello every one, new to this forum and new to a crusier, have had to previous bowriders but mid season stepped up to a 1999 FV 270. I know this boat is a lot larger and i have the brovo 3 (duo prop)
but I am finding the steering response and feel to be NUMB! low speed she is very had to handle (lack of response) and hi speeds  i find i am turning the wheel a lot to get her to actually turn.

basically trying to dock is fun cause of the lack of response, when i crank the wheel full lock either way the boat does not respond really well and turn in that direction, even leaving my slip i basically have to do a 3 point turn  which i find weird cause no one else seems to have to do that .

Is something wrong or am I crazy?

thanks
Shawn

Could be a gimbal bearing, if there seems to be a lot of slop in the wheel where nothing happens. Next time you have the boat out of the water, try moving the drive side to side by hand, there shouldn't be much play.

My guess is that your gimbal ring is worn - there's a lot of info on worn gimbal rings and the most frequently over-looked routine maintenance issue seems to be forgetting (or not knowing about) re-torquing the gimbal ring to steering shaft every season. Here's a link that may be useful:

You can also do your own search on this site, but an excessivly worn gimbal ring / steering  could cause what you describe.
