Hi there,

here is the issue:

The boat: rinker 270 f.v
built: 2002
engine:mag350

the boat is on the trailer, and i had today my engineer visit in order to proceed with the annual service.

when entering the cabin there was a smell of gasoline all around. have checked the fuel gauge and it was fully down (below the E marking), thus the tank was fully empty.

after that we filled the tank with about 20lit, and the gauge was slightly moved, so fuel gauge is working.

Then we noticed that in the area of the aft cabin, where the bildge pump and some overboard valves are located (the area of sump tank), there was pure gasoline.

Contacted the local dealer and he advised that the tank could have been leaking.

it was real surpise to me, since this boat is 2002 and is quite young to have such a problem, correct??

In view to the above issue, which most likely will refrain me to launch the boat on the water sad, please assist to the following:

1.   is it actually a leakage from the tank, by such ‘symptoms’??
2.   I noticed that the tank is located in an area which is very difficult to approach/remove it. Should i remove the engine and cut the fibreglass??
3.   is there a way to delete the present tank and restore it with another one in a different location?
4.   anyone had this experience before??

Thanks for any advise/guidance on that.

alex

Hi , I seem to have the same issue with my boat! I have a 01 242 fiesta vee............gas fumes in the bilge area and in the cabin. I wish I could help you but please keep me posted on what you find out. The tank is in a very difficult spot to fix. I did hear that this is a common problem with rinker boats.
