Took my 262 Captiva out for a spin this A.M. The engine cut off once when accelerating, sputtered and back fired for about 10 minutes...could hardly get above 5 knots....then it cleared itself and ran fine.

Not sure if it was due to when I put my boat on my new boat lift (for the 1st time) about two weeks ago I did not have a slight bow incline? When I lowered the boat my bilge pump came on and a tremendous amount of water came out ( we have had several tremendous downpours).
Or.....could it have been from ......just added 10 gallons of gas with two 5 gallon gas cans

Bad gas or water contamination?

or?

It cleared up so I would guess you picked up some water.  Better change your filter(s)

Yep, sounds like water.  Pull your separator and replace.  My .02
