Update......
I took my prop to a shop and had them look at it.  The mechanic said the prop looked as if it was rubbing on the gearcase and that my propshaft was bent.  I told him I doubt the shaft is bent as I have not hit anything.  Point proven with a magnetic base and indicator setup (I'm a machinist by trade).  The shaft didn't runout more than .002 of an inch.  Pretty good I thought.  I showed him that I have the "hydro torq" hub insert kit and asked if there should be slop in it.  The bronze insert was really loose in the delrin insert.  He said maybe the prop was torquing under load.

I bought a new insert and will try it out this coming weekend.  Illinois river went up over 2 feet overnight due to some pretty intense storms this weekend so there was too much debris to risk a test run yesterday.

Any feelings that I'm on the right track??? dont know  Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Hi -

Sound like you are on the right track! Worn delrin insert would show like a bent shaft! Good luck!

Great news on the prop....I went and purchased a new prop last Friday, went out of Saturday and ran for hours with no problems.  Hoorah!!  Just in time for Fall.@#$%^#$.  I guess there are a few weekends left.

Thanks again for the help

So the new hub didn't solve the problem and you needed a new prop? Any idea what was wrong with the prior prop?

turned out to be the worn delrin insert which caused the prop hub to rub on the lower unit gearbox.  I measured the new prop vs the old prop and the new one was about .025" larger on the diameter.  I guess thats enough to get exhaust blow by to cause ventilation at the higher speeds.

wow..... I knew tolerances for marine engines and boats were tight but .025"  that's just ridiculous.

Glad your fine now and motoring.  you still have a couple of weeks, ....GET ON THE WATER!!!!!!!!!!
