Yes you can and I did. VP can instruct your shop or you on the proper application of the special primer and then fouling paint. KEEP IT OFF any of the stainess parts of the drive. Like the piston ring...
FYI... Even though it's composite, stuff still grows on them.

I got a quart of trilux 33 at West Marine with quart of alcohol to clean the drive and 2 disposable chip brushes for around $100 believe it or not! Gotta love boating and West Marine!

Here are some links for Sterndrive antifouling:
for XDP composite drives (this is what I use):
http://www.yachtpaint.com/LiteratureCentre/underwater-antifouling-system-volvo-penta-tb-usa-eng.pdf
for Mercury outdrives, try page 91 of this Mercury serndrive manual:
http://www.mercurymarine.com/_media/pdfs/serviceandwarranty/sterndrive-models/Non-EC/90-899883180-Maint.pdf
Also, for aluminum outdrives, Pettit has a good guide, depending on whether the drive is bare or previously painted...

Well, even though I put a fresh coat of the Interlux 33 in May of this year and keep the boat in brackish water, the XDP out-drive is loaded with barnacles.
Guess I'll look for another solution.
